AILET 2024 Exam Analysis By Harsh Gagrani, Co-founder by Toprankers
The test remained moderate to difficult while lengthier in nature. Let us deep dive into section wise-analysis-
Section A: English Language
This section, consisting of 50 questions carrying 50 marks, presented a moderate level of difficulty in comparison to the previous year. The questions varied, encompassing grammar and language, contributing to a balanced assessment.
Section B: Current Affairs & General Knowledge
In contrast to the previous year's easier set of questions, the 30-question, 30-mark segment this year posed a moderate challenge. The paper leaned heavily towards current affairs, interspersed with some static questions. Notably, economics took a forefront position, testing students' understanding of important concepts. The mix of static and current questions aligned with the preparation patterns observed in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
Section C: Logical Reasoning
Marked as the lengthiest and most challenging section, the 70-question, 70-mark segment traversed from moderate to difficult terrain. Noteworthy was the introduction of legal-oriented principal-fact based questions, absent in the previous two years. Critical reasoning involved long, statement-based inquiries, along with an emphasis on assumptions and inference, albeit straightforward in nature. The analytical reasoning (AR) section highlighted a substantial presence of syllogisms and coding-decoding queries.
The section's moderate to difficult nature stemmed from the individual question complexities, rendering it a bit lengthy. Additionally, the inclusion of AR questions seemed to have caused confusion among candidates. Notably, the previous year's difficulty level was rated as moderate, signifying a considerable shift in this year's assessment.
“This year's AILET exam followed a similar pattern to 2022 but had its own challenges. The test had more passage-based questions and was longer than last year's. It lasted for 120 minutes instead of the usual 90, with 150 questions to answer. The questions were moderate in difficulty, focusing a lot on context, and each question had its own passage, which made the test longer than the one in 2023. The expected cutoff for General category students might be around 78-83 marks, which is higher than last year's by about 10%, but a bit lower than the cutoff for 2022, showing how the difficulty of the exam has changed over recent years," said Harsh Gagrani, Co-founder of Toprankers.
With CLAT results to be out soon, the institute is also coming up with a one-on-one counselling session titled 'What Next After CLAT 2024', on December 11th, 2023 at 4 pm at LegalEdge centres across various cities. Herein aspiring law students, parents, and educators will understand the post-CLAT landscape. This one-to-one session will guide aspiring law aspirants about their options and paths after the CLAT and AILET 2024 examination. LegalEdge by Toprankers has been consistent in delivering results like AIR 1, 2, 3 in 2021, 2022, and 2023 whereas AIR 8, 9, and 15 in AILET PG 2023 and AIR 28, 65, 82 in CLAT PG 2023.
