SEBA, AHSEC Into One Single Board: The Assam government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's administration, announced the merger of the state's Class 10 and 12 boards into a unified body during a recent cabinet session. This decision to merge the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) aims to establish the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), as revealed in a cabinet communique.

SEBA traditionally conducts the Class 10 examinations, while AHSEC oversees the Class 12 exams. The consolidation is geared towards enhancing the supervision and quality standards of school education in the state, aligning with the cabinet's objectives.

This decision comes in the wake of incidents, around eight months ago, involving the leakage of question papers during the Class 10 board examinations. Reports indicated leaks in General Science and Assamese papers, leading to the rescheduling of these exams along with all subjects under Modern Indian Languages (MIL), including Assamese and English.

The cabinet also approved revisions to regulations governing the recruitment of school teachers across different levels. These changes are aimed at maintaining an optimal student-teacher ratio and effectively utilising manpower within the education sector.
