The Bihar state government is going to start a paid internship scheme for engineering students. Students enrolled in four-year undergraduate BTech programs at state-run engineering colleges are eligible to apply, and the scheme will pay a one-time stipend of Rs 10,000. Students in their seventh semester can take advantage of this opportunity. The decision to implement the paid internship program was made during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

"The main objective of the scheme is to give exposure to students pursuing the four-year undergraduate course in government-run engineering colleges to the working culture of the departments and its schemes," said S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat), as reported by news agency PTI.

The government has asked educational institutions and industry to collaborate in order to align the education system to generate employable students. Over the years, the government has focused on ensuring better linkage between academia-industry to make students employable.

The authorities have implemented several measures, including mandatory industrial internships, work-study mobility, and strong industry-academia relations, in an effort to support students' holistic learning.

Apart from the internship initiative, the government approved a sum of Rs 6,010 crore to construct 2,165 new Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans across the state. Siddharth highlighted that 1,082 of these buildings will be built in districts that have experienced flooding.
