75 Percent Reservation In Bihar: The Bihar government on Tuesday, November, 22 notified in the state gazette the two Bills, which were recently passed by the state legislature to increase the quota for underprivileged castes from 50 per cent to 65 per cent in government jobs and educational institutions and raise the state's overall reservation up to 75 per cent.
Following their amendments, the Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes) Bill, 2023, and the Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Admission in Educational Institutions Bill, 2023, have now both become Acts.
As a result, Bihar climbed to the top among the bigger states in terms of reservation offering, with a quota of 75 per cent overall, with 10 per cent allocated to those in the economically deprived upper caste group.
According to the state gazette notification, the EWS categories will continue to receive its 10 per cent quota in the state, while those belonging to the Scheduled Castes would receive 20 per cent, Scheduled Tribes (2 per cent), Backward Classes (18 per cent), and Extremely Backward Classes (25 per cent).

The state government increased the quota for Scheduled Castes from 16 to 20 per cent, Scheduled Tribes from 1 to 2 percent, extremely backward castes from 18 to 25 percent, and backward classes from 15 to 18 percent. The total quota in the state will now be 75 per cent as the EWS will receive the 10 per cent quota in accordance with the provisions under the central government Act. The gazette notifications were issued a few days after Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar gave his approval to both Bills.
