The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to establish a sub-regional office in Agartala due to the recent underperformance of state-run schools affiliated with CBSE in board examinations. This decision comes after the schools affiliated with CBSE did not perform well in the latest board exams. According to data, around 61 per cent of students passed the CBSE Class 10 exams, and 59 per cent cleared the Class 12th exams.

Previously, these schools were affiliated with the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) and used Bengali as the medium of instruction. After the BJP took power in Tripura in 2018, 125 state-run schools were renamed as Vidyajyoti schools, transitioning to CBSE’s English-medium curriculum.

According to news agency PTI, Education Department's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Abhijit Samajpati stated that the state government will allocate land for the CBSE office to enhance educational infrastructure. The office will initially function from a Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya building.

The CBSE sub-regional office will offer various services to affiliated schools, including admission support, subject correction, student record updates, exam center coordination, mark sheet corrections, grievance handling, and teacher training. Moreover, it will collaborate with state education bodies and other regional institutions to ensure efficient examination processes and student development activities.
