Chandigarh School Holidays: Due to the extreme cold, Chandigarh schools will be closed up to Class 8 till January 20, 2024. Schools will resume their classes on January 22. According to the Director of Chandigarh School Education, the current adverse weather conditions may expose children to severe colds. Government, government-aided, and recognised private schools in Chandigarh are affected, however, they may hold classes online during this time.
“In view of the prevailing inclement weather conditions and to avoid the exposure of children to this extreme cold weather; there will be no classes in physical mode up to Class VIII in any Government, Government-Aided and Recognised Private Schools of UT Chandigarh till the 20th of January 2024. The schools may organise online classes for their students of these classes,” reads the order.
For students in higher classes from Standard 9 to 12 attending both government and private schools in Chandigarh, classes will continue as usual. However, schools have been instructed not to commence classes before 9:30 am and conclude later than 4 pm to mitigate the impact of early morning and late evening cold spells.

“For Class IX to XII in all Government, Government-Aided and Recognised Private Schools of UT Chandigarh. till the 20' of January 2024 the schools shall open for students not earlier than 9.30 am and close no later than 4 pm. The Schools while regulating the timing for these classes must take into account the cold spell especially early morning and late evening and the time taken by the children for their commute to and from school,” the order stated.
When arranging classes, schools should take into account the chilly weather, especially in the early morning and late evening, as well as the time children spend commuting. Schools are encouraged to alter staff schedules and provide these changes to all relevant parties.
