School Holiday Chennai: Due to continuous rain, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Chennai today (03.12.25). As a low-pressure area is centered near Chennai, continuous rain is falling. Following this, the District Collector has ordered a holiday for schools and colleges today ie on December 3, 2025.
Low-Pressure Area near Chennai:
Cyclone 'Tidwah', which formed in the Bay of Bengal, moved towards Tamil Nadu. Further, while approaching Tamil Nadu, it weakened into a deep depression and then came near Chennai and further weakened into a depression and is currently located 60 km away from Chennai. It will remain in the same position for 12 hours and then weaken further and cross the coast between Chennai and Puducherry, the Meteorological Department said.
In this situation, due to a low-pressure area, widespread heavy rains are continuing in Chennai and Tiruvallur districts.
Orange alert issued for Chennai today
In this situation, due to this low-pressure area near Chennai, an orange alert for very heavy rain has been issued for 5 districts yesterday and 3 districts today. Chennai is among the districts where an orange alert has been issued today.
Although an orange alert has not been issued for Chennai tomorrow, rain is continuing. In this situation, the Meteorological Department has stated that there is a possibility of rain in 20 districts, including Chennai and Thiruvallur, until 10 PM on December 2, 2025.
Holiday announcement for schools and colleges in Chennai
In this context, as it is raining continuously in Chennai, it is predicted that the rain will continue tomorrow as well. Following this, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Chennai. District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade has ordered the declaration of a holiday due to heavy rain.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that schools and colleges in the Chengalpattu district will operate as usual.
