Delhi School Closed: Since the last week of October, Delhi has been shrouded in a thick layer of smog, effectively turning the city into a gas chamber. This impact extends across the NCR region, affecting areas like Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, with the AQI crossing 400 in several parts of Delhi and Noida. As a result, schools, which had reopened after the Diwali break, may close again, though an official notification is yet to be issued.
Schools resumed on Monday, but most avoided holding assemblies. Outdoor activities, including PT classes, have been suspended for the time being, and many schools have advised students to wear masks. Parents have also been urged to take extra precautions, advising their children to avoid outdoor play and activities during this period.
October and November present a major challenge for Delhiites as pollution in Delhi NCR peaks, with AQI levels exceeding 300 in most areas and even crossing 400 in some. This affects everyone’s health, young and old. Many offices have reintroduced work-from-home options, and there are discussions around closing schools again as part of a "pollution break."
Last year, after Diwali, schools in Delhi NCR were temporarily closed for the first time as a "pollution break." During this period, many institutions continued the syllabus via online classes.
Several schools will remain closed on November 7 in observance of Chhath Puja. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has declared a public holiday for this occasion.
