On the occasion of Teachers' Day 2023, Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the "Malaviya Mission: Teacher Training Programme" at Kaushal Bhawan. This initiative, conducted in collaboration between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Union Education Ministry, aims to provide training to over 15 lakh teachers across the country. To facilitate this, the UGC has introduced a dedicated registration portal, mmc.ugc.ac.in, for teachers interested in participating in capacity-building programs.

The two-week online programme will focus on eight themes such as

- Holistic & Multidisciplinary Education
- Indian Knowledge Systems
- Academic Leadership & Governance & Management
- Higher Education & Society
- Research & Development
- Skill Development
- Student Diversity & Inclusive Education
- Info & Communication Tech

Minister Pradhan announced the renaming of human resource development centers to "Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers' Training Centers." He stressed the importance of enhancing the quality of education by improving teaching methods and enhancing the skills of educators.

“Societal transformation can be only lead through the development of education. The theme-wise training sessions being provided under the programme will help enthuse ‘Samagrata’ (completeness),” the minister said. He added that teachers need to be lifelong learners as it will contribute to the holistic development of their students.

“Teachers’ training being the crucial aspect of enhancing the quality of higher education, UGC aims at building energised, motivated and capable faculty,” UGC Chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar said at the launch of the Malaviya Mission-Teachers Training Programme.
