58th Engineers' Day: Engineers Day 2025 is celebrated every year on September 15 in India. The day honors engineers for their work in building the nation. It is also the birthday of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. He was a famous civil engineer and leader who helped improve India’s dams, roads, and industries.

Educational institutions, engineering forums, and government organisations across India use this occasion to celebrate technological innovation and pay tribute to the enduring legacy of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, inspiring future generations to pursue excellence in engineering and nation-building.

Engineers Day 2025: History 

Engineers Day in India began in 1968, when the Government of India declared September 15 as a day to commemorate the remarkable life and achievements of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Born on September 15, 1861, in Muddenahalli, Karnataka, Sir Visvesvaraya is recognised worldwide as the "Father of Indian Engineering".

His innovations such as the patented automatic floodgates and the design of the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam transformed India's infrastructure and water management systems.

Serving as the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918, he contributed to public works, education and industrialisation. This annual celebration not only honours his legacy but also highlights the vital importance of the engineering profession in the country's development.

Sir M. Visvesvaraya: Education and career

After completing his early education in Chikkaballapur, he moved to Bangalore. In 1881, he completed his B.A. from Bangalore and after this, obtained a degree in civil engineering from the College of Engineering, Pune. After studies, he joined the Public Works Department (PWD) of Bombay Presidency.

Sir M. Visvesvaraya: Honours and titles

-Awarded Bharat Ratna in 1955

-Received the title of KCIE (Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire) from the British government

-He is also called the "Pitamaha" of Indian engineering, which is a popular and respectful title.

Engineers Day 2025: Theme

Like every year, to celebrate Engineers Day, a theme is chosen to highlight the latest trends and challenges in the engineering field. For this year i.e. 2025, the theme of the 58th Engineers Day 2025 is "Deep Tech and Engineering Excellence: Driving India's Techade". It underlines the important role of engineering in solving global challenges.

The Institution of Engineers (India), Mysore Local Centre has the great tradition of organising Engineers’ Day coinciding with Birthday Celebrations of Bharath Ratna Dr. Sir M. Visvesvaraya in the month of September befitting the great statesman Engineer of the nation. Accordingly this year 58th Engineers’ Day Celebrations coinciding 164th  Birthday Celebration of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
