History of International Youth Day:
International Youth Day was formally established on December 17, 1999, when the UN General Assembly adopted the recommendation from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth. The first official celebration was held on August 12, 2000.
-1991: Concept proposed during the first World Youth Forum.
-1998: Portugal pushed for formal recognition at a youth ministers’ conference.
-2000–Present: Annual themes and activities addressing critical youth-related issues.
