Karnataka board exams 2024: According to a Live Law report, the Karnataka High Court's temporary ruling, which finally permitted the state government to hold board exams for Classes 5, 8, and 9, has been overturned by the Supreme Court. The Karnataka High Court issued an interim order rescinding the single bench ruling that had invalidated the government announcement that these classes would have board exams.
The state board exams for the 5th, 8th and 9th grades have been postponed by the Karnataka school education department as a result. Notably, on March 11, the Karnataka government had already started the secondary board exams.
Parents and private school associations filed petitions against the high court's division bench's temporary ruling. The division bench was requested by the top to rule on the main appeals as soon as feasible once the appeals were authorized.
The state cannot continue to administer the board exams at this time, the supreme court stated, clarifying that the board exams for Classes 5, 8, and 9 had already begun while staying the interim injunction.
The single bench's order was delayed by the division bench of the high court after it was determined that the government notification had violated the regulations. The Karnataka High Court's single bench ruling had been contested by the state administration.
The single bench, which included Justice Ravi V. Hosmani, rendered the decision on March 7 and eliminated the board exams for Classes 5, 8, and 9. The private school organization had petitioned the court to proceed with the comprehensive review instead of the summative assessment.
The Karnataka government implemented the formative summative assessments for Classes 5 and 8 in December 2022. The task of conducting the examinations was delegated to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB).
