Keralam PSC Recruitment Investigation: Kerala Youth Welfare Minister OJ Janeesh on Saturday alleged irregularities in appointments made by the Kerala PSC during the previous LDF government and said the present government would conduct a probe into the matter.
The state government is set to examine allegations of irregularities in appointments made through the Kerala Public Service Commission during the previous administration, according to OJ Janeesh.
Speaking in Thrissur on Saturday, Janeesh said the government is prepared to move towards a comprehensive investigation into the matter while considering the legal and procedural framework governing the constitutional institution.
Planning Board Recruitment Controversy:
The controversy surfaced following allegations regarding appointments to the State Planning Board, in which answers to 10 questions written by a candidate were allegedly left unreviewed.
Although the PSC initially ordered an internal vigilance inquiry, the matter was later transferred to the Controller of Examinations for investigation. Janeesh questioned the move, arguing that such an arrangement could undermine the credibility of the probe.
Questions Over Transparency in Recruitment:
According to the minister, the alleged irregularity came to light only after an aspirant from Alappuzha pursued a prolonged legal battle. He claimed that details related to the examination were disclosed only after intervention by the State Information Commission.
Janeesh alleged that there appeared to be attempts from the beginning to shield certain individuals involved in the recruitment process, raising concerns over transparency and accountability within the institution.
KUFOS Appointments Also Under Scrutiny:
Referring to appointments at the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Janeesh claimed that 38 of the 44 selected candidates were from a single college.
He alleged that the unusually high concentration of selections from a single institution raised concerns about the integrity of answer sheet evaluation and question paper handling during the recruitment exercise.
Government Assures Investigation:
Janeesh stated that the government, led by the Chief Minister, is committed to conducting an investigation that would identify everyone involved in any wrongdoing.
He added that since the PSC is a constitutional body, legal and procedural limitations would need to be examined before a final decision is taken by the Cabinet. The minister also reiterated the support of the Youth Congress for PSC aspirants across the state.
Vacancy Reporting and Backdoor Appointment Allegations:
Welcoming the government's recent directive asking departments to report vacancies within three weeks, Janeesh alleged that many vacancies were not reported to the PSC during the previous administration.
He further accused leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India of failing to raise the concerns of government job aspirants in the state assembly, alleging that the lack of vacancy reporting encouraged backdoor appointments in several departments.
