It's crucial to note that while these dates are generally consistent, variations might occur depending on individual states and local customs. 1. September 5 (Friday) – Milad-Un-Nabi: Eid Milad-un-Nabi is considered as one of the most auspicious festivals for Muslims. This festival honours the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). As per the Islamic literature, the Prophet Muhammad's birthday dates all the way back to the early Rashidun Caliphs and was started by the Fatimids. It is celebrated with great happiness in muslim households.
2. September 17 (Wednesday) – Onam: Onam is a harvest festival that is celebrated in Kerala between August and September. Basically it is a 10 days harvest festival which commemorates the return of the mythical King Mahabali to his people. In this festival, celebration includes laying elaborate floral carpets called Pookalam, and enjoying a grand vegetarian feast called Onasadya. People also participate in the boat races and folk dances such as Vallamkali and Thumbi Thullal.
3. September 21 (Sunday) – Bathukamma Starting Day: Bathukamma Starting Day will commence on Sunday, September 21, 2025 but can vary. This event is a nine-day festival of Telangana which is celebrated in the months of September and October, later half of the monsoon season. Bathukamma means ‘Mother Goddess come alive’ and is a celebration of the patron Goddess of womanhood, symbolises the cultural significance of the state.
3. September 29 (Monday) – Durga Puja Saptami: Durga Puja Saptami is also known as Maha Saptami, it is celebrated on the seventh day of the 10-day festival, marking the beginning of the main celebrations and the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura.The festival is observed with the ritual of Nabapatrika Snan, where nine symbolic plants are bathed in the river, which symbolises the awakening of the Goddess and her connection to nature.
4. September 30 (Tuesday) – Durga Puja Mahashtami: Durga Puja Maha Ashtami is considered as the most significant day of the Durga Puja festival, which celebrates the victory of the Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. To celebrate this festival, devotees worship the nine forms of the Goddess Shakti as well as perform rituals such as Kumari Puja (worship of young girls) and Astra Puja (worship of the weapons of the Maa Durga) and Sandhi Puja.
