List of Major Peshwas: Loyal Ministers of Marathas: Peshwas were known as the chief executives as well as the prime ministers of the Maratha Empire. They were appointed by the Kings of the Marathas to help them in state affairs. The most prominent and successful Peshwas of the Maratha Empire was Baji Rao I. They were also known as the loyal ministers of the state and helped the king in political decisions and discussions.
In the beginning of their period, these Peshwas acted as a military assistant to the Maratha kings who were known as the Chhatrapati. These Peshwas belong to a particular sub-caste chosen by the King. They manage military campaigns, administrations, financial and local matters on a regular basis.
