Pune heavy Rainfall: Pune received heavy rainfall late on Sunday night, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert at 4 am on Monday. Due to this, many students and parents are confused about whether the authorities will announce closure of schools and colleges. 

So let us tell you that so far the local authorities have not announced the closure of educational institutions.

IMD Alert In Maharashtra:

According to reports, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared an Orange alert in Mumbai today, in September, due to anticipated moderate rainfall.

In the next two to three hours, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied with strong winds (40-60 km/hr) and moderate rain (5-15 mm/hr) are likely over Ahmednagar, Beed, Latur, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Pune, Raigad and Thane in Maharashtra.

In light of these circumstances, students and parents are reportedly advocating for the closure of schools, prioritising the safety of both students and staff.

It is important to highlight that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not yet announced a holiday for schools in the area. Students and parents are encouraged to maintain communication with school authorities for additional instructions and information.

According to the weather office’s nowcast, moderate to intense showers were expected until 10 am, followed by heavy to very heavy rain along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated locations in the city.

Alongside Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and the ghat areas of Pune were also placed under an orange alert for heavy rainfall today.

Visuals shared by news agency ANI on Monday showed waterlogging in the King's Circle area, where commuters and vehicles had difficulty moving and traffic slowed down. 

 

Heavy Rain in Konkan, Goa, Maharashtra: 

The IMD forecast said, Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at many/few places over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on September 16, while very heavy rains are likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on September 14 and 15.
