Stationary Items GST Rates: The 56th meeting of the GST Council has issued a new list of the GST slabs on various stationery items in the education department. Check new GST rates here.

A key part of the reforms is the exemption of many essential goods and services from GST, moving them into the 0% tax category. This covers food items, medicines, healthcare, education supplies and stationery, insurance, and even several defence and aviation imports. Earlier, stationery items were taxed under 12% Goods and Services tax slab, now, as per the new rates, there will be several stationery items tax-free. 

1. Maps: Earlier the GST on Maps were 12% whereas now it has become tax free and moved to the NIL category.

2. Charts and Globes: The Goods and Service Tax on charts and globes has also been removed but earlier it was around 12%.

3. Pencil sharpeners, Pencils (including propelling or sliding pencils), Crayons, Pastels have also become tax free earlier 12% GST was imposed on these stationery items.

4. Exercise books, Graph books, Laboratory notebooks, Notebooks have also become tax free earlier a 12% GST was imposed on these stationery items as well.

5. Erasers are also tax free now earlier 5% Goods and Service Tax were imposed on it. 

Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister has officially announced significant Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate reductions and modification after the 56th GST Council meeting. She mentioned that the newly approved two-tier tax rate system would be extremely beneficial for the common man of India.

New GST Rates To Be Effective From September 22:

Nirmala Sitharaman announced that new rates for the Goods and Service Tax would be effective from September 22, coinciding with the first day of Navaratri. Following the 56th GST Council meeting, she has also mentioned that these reforms prioritise the needs and requirements of the common man. She emphasised that ‘Every tax on the common man’s daily use items has gone through a rigorous review and in most cases the rates have come down drastically.’

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the benefits of the new GST slabs for labor-intensive industries, the healthcare sector and farmers, the agriculture sector, with a focus on key economic drivers.
