Primary Teacher Education Bridge Course: Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi has officially launched the six-month 'Primary Teacher Education Bridge Course' for primary school teachers across India. Developed in line with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) framework, this specialized professional development program is tailored specifically for working primary teachers holding a B.Ed. degree. Implemented through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), the course acts as an essential certification pathway to enable B.Ed-qualified educators to effectively teach primary-level students from Classes 1 to 5.

Delivered through an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) format, the course blends online academic learning, practical school-based training, and digital learning tools.

Purpose And Significance for B.Ed Teachers
The primary objective of this certificate course is to bridge the pedagogical gap for B.Ed degree holders teaching at the primary level. While B.Ed programs traditionally focus on secondary education, primary teaching requires specific skills tailored to child development and foundational learning. This six-month program provides B.Ed-qualified in-service teachers with the formal certification and training required to align with primary education standards across the country.
Course Structure and Curriculum Overview
The academic curriculum is structured to cover both theoretical principles and hands-on practical training. It consists of six theory courses alongside school-based practicum assignments. The course architecture integrates a minimum of 10 days of online contact classes paired with at least 20 days of school-based practical experience. This practical component includes practice teaching, maintaining reflective journals, and building comprehensive portfolios.
Delivery Mode and Flexible Learning Resources
Conducted completely via Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, the initiative incorporates modern digital learning tools to support working professionals. The training package features video tutorials, e-learning content, digital platforms, and interactive contact programs.

Medium of Instruction and Examination Options
The primary media of instruction for the course material and contact modules are English and Hindi. However, to ensure accessibility and linguistic inclusivity for educators across different states, NIOS permits candidates to attempt the public theoretical examinations in any of the 22 languages recognized under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
