Odisha School Closed: In response to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) heatwave forecast, the Odisha government announced the closure of all schools across the state from April 18 to 20.

The School and Mass Education Department conveyed through a press statement that this decision encloses government, government-aided, and private schools, aiming to mitigate the impact of the prevailing heatwave conditions and escalating daytime temperatures, as reported by news agency PTI.

According to the IMD's forecast, temperatures are projected to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in numerous areas over the next two days. In Odisha, it is expected that temperatures will surpass the 45 degrees Celsius threshold in certain locations from April 18 to 20. Weather scientist Umashankar Das noted that Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district recorded the highest temperature nationwide on Tuesday, reaching 43.6 degrees Celsius.

According to a bulletin from IMD's Bhubaneswar Centre, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in certain areas of the following districts on Wednesday: Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, and Boudh. Moreover, hot and humid weather conditions are forecasted for one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
