Padma Awards 2025: The Padma Awards, one of India’s highest civilian honors, were announced on Saturday. This year, President Droupadi Murmu approved a total of 139 recipients across three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These prestigious awards recognise outstanding contributions in fields such as literature, education, arts, science, and public service. Notably, 30 individuals were honored for their exceptional achievements in literature and education.
The Padma Awards are granted based on recommendations made by the Padma Awards Committee, which is constituted annually by the Prime Minister. The committee is chaired by the Cabinet Secretary and includes the Home Secretary, the Secretary to the President, and four to six eminent members. After reviewing nominations, the committee submits its recommendations to the Prime Minister and the President of India for final approval.
Categories of Padma Awards
The Padma Awards are divided into three categories:
- Padma Vibhushan: Awarded for exceptional and distinguished service.
- Padma Bhushan: Awarded for distinguished service of a high order.
- Padma Shri: Awarded for distinguished service in any field.
This year’s list includes one duo case, where two individuals share an award, but it is counted as a single honor.
