PhD Admission 2024: In a recent announcement, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has determined that beginning with the 2024-25 academic session, National Eligibility Test (NET) scores will be utilised for PhD admissions, replacing the traditional entrance exams conducted by various universities and higher education institutions. Accordingly, Delhi University will adopt this new policy, employing NET scores for admissions to its PhD programs starting from the upcoming academic year. For admissions, the weightage will be 70 percent for NET marks and 30 percent for interview marks. NET scores for candidates in Categories 2 and 3 will remain valid for one year for PhD admissions.
PhD Admission 2024: Check Guidelines
Candidates will be eligible in three categories based on their NET scores:
- According to the UGC Notification dated March 27, 2024, students qualifying under Categories 2 and 3 will be evaluated based on a 70 per cent weightage for test scores and a 30 per cent weightage for the interview for admission to Ph.D. programs. Ph.D. admission will be determined by the combined merit of NET marks and interview performance.

- The marks obtained in the NET by candidates in Category 2 and 3 will remain valid for one year for admission to Ph.D. Programs.
- Moreover, the University may conduct entrance examinations for Ph.D. programs where NET examinations in the concerned subjects/disciplines are not conducted by UGC, such as Portuguese, Italian, Engineering, etc.
