The QS World University Rankings 2025, released by Quacquarelli Symonds on June 4, feature IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi in the top 150. IIT Bombay is ranked 118th, while IIT Delhi is at 150th. IISc Bangalore is the third highest-ranked Indian institute, securing the 211th spot. Following closely are IIT Kharagpur at 222nd and IIT Madras at 227th. Other notable Indian institutes include IIT Kanpur at 263rd and the University of Delhi at 328th.

Last year, IIT Bombay also secured the top spot among Indian institutes. In the World University Rankings 2024, IIT Bombay was ranked 149th, IIT Delhi was placed at 197th, IISc Bangalore at 225th, and IIT Kharagpur at 271st.

Meanwhile, among the top 10 universities globally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US has secured the top rank, maintaining its position for the 13th consecutive year. Imperial College London follows in second place. Oxford University and Harvard University are ranked 3rd and 4th, respectively. Cambridge University holds the 5th spot, while Stanford University is ranked 6th. ETH Zurich, NUS, UCL, and Caltech are placed at 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th, respectively.

“This year’s ranking is the largest ever, featuring over 1,500 universities across 105 higher education systems. The United States is the most represented country or territory, with 197 ranked institutions, followed by the United Kingdom with 90 and mainland China with 71,” reads the notification.

The QS University Rankings are based on several criteria: subject comprehensiveness, level comprehensiveness, mode of teaching, sustainability, employability, and international research collaboration.
