School Closed Due to Pollution: Schools in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and Faridabad have moved all classes online due to the alarming air quality levels. The Delhi government extended the directive to include classes 10 and 12, after previously suspending physical classes for students up to class 9.

While Delhi and Faridabad have not provided a timeline for resuming in-person classes, Noida and Gurugram have announced a halt to physical classes until November 23.

Supreme Court Directs Strict Anti-Pollution Measures

The shift to online education follows a Supreme Court directive urging Delhi-NCR states to enforce Stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The measures were introduced to address the hazardous pollution levels across the region.

Schools in Ghaziabad will conduct online classes starting Tuesday, November 19, to prepare for the Assembly bypolls scheduled for November 20.

Air Quality Worsens in Delhi-NCR

Air quality has deteriorated across multiple cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, and northern India, reaching critical levels. In the national capital, the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘severe plus’ category for the second consecutive day.

According to SAFAR-India, Delhi’s AQI worsened to 492 on Tuesday morning, surpassing Monday’s reading of 483, which was already the season’s highest. The continued decline has raised significant health concerns, particularly for vulnerable populations.
