School Holiday 9 October 2025: In light of the inclement weather, state and district administrations are considering closing educational institutions to ensure the safety of students and teachers. Students and their parents can contact the school administration directly to confirm holidays.
Since October this year is already full of festivities, students can use their free time for self-study, learning new skills, spending holidays with family, or simply relaxing.
Ahead of winter, sudden rains, strong winds, and landslides have claimed many lives. Therefore, some state authorities are monitoring weather conditions to announce holidays as needed, while others have announced closures for other reasons.
Karnataka Schools Closed Tomorrow:
Due to the recent ‘Social and Educational Survey’ or the ‘caste survey’ undertaken by the government of Karnataka, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a shutdown for government and government-aided schools in the state from October 8 to 18, 2025.
Darjeeling Schools Closed Tomorrow:
Due to the recent severe weather conditions, all schools and colleges in West Bengal's Darjeeling are ordered to remain closed from October 8 to October 10, 2025.
The official notification released by the Education Department of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration read, "Due to heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides occurring on the 4th and 5th of October, 2025, the connectivity and mobility have been disrupted in the entire region of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. Considering the ground aspects, the competent authority of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration has decided that all the educational institutions (Government, Government-sponsored, Government-aided, private, run by Missionaries, etc.), viz. primary schools, secondary schools, SSKs, MSKs, colleges (both general & technical), will remain closed from 8th–10th October, 2025. These educational institutions will reopen on the 13th of October, 2025 (Monday)."
Jammu and Kashmir School Holiday Tomorrow:
According to the IMD report, Shimla city and surrounding areas are likely to experience light to moderate rain, light thunder/lightning, and strong winds (40-50 kmph) with moderate visibility. Additionally, light to moderate rain/snowfall is expected at some locations on October 8 and 9, 2025. If the situation worsens, authorities may declare a holiday for the safety of students.
Earlier, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) had ordered the closure of all government and private schools in the Jammu division for two days (October 6 and 7) in view of the forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Jammu division.
Delhi NCR: Will schools be closed on October 9?
Delhi and surrounding areas such as Noida and Gurugram are experiencing rain and a change in weather is visible. However, authorities have not announced the closure of educational institutions on October 8, 2025.
Are schools closed in Himachal Pradesh?
Himachal Pradesh (HP) is grappling with heavy rain, landslides, and snowfall. According to the IMD report, Sirmaur recorded the highest rainfall of 49 mm until October 7, 2025, followed by Solan (38.8 mm) and Lahaul-Spiti (36.3 mm), while Hamirpur recorded the lowest rainfall of 8.6 mm. At least 15 people lost their lives in a rain-triggered landslide in Bilaspur.
In view of the inclement weather, the district administration may declare a holiday in the coming days. Previously, Himachal Pradesh had ordered the closure of all colleges/schools until October 7, 2025.
