Good News for Students Looking to Study in India. India has made it easier for international students to pursue higher education in the country with the introduction of two special category visas: the 'e-student visa' and the 'e-student-x visa.' These visas, launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), are designed to streamline the application process for students wishing to study at academic institutions across India.

Overview of the New Visas

- e-student visa: This visa is available to eligible foreign students who are registered on the government’s 'Study in India' (SII) portal.

- e-student-x visa: This visa is specifically for the dependents of students holding the e-student visa.
The launch of these visas simplifies the admission process for international students, whether they are enrolling in long-term or short-term courses at Indian institutions.

How to Apply For Student E-Visa?

Students can apply for a visa through the official portal at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/. However, the authenticity of their application will be verified using the SII ID. As a result, it is mandatory for students to apply to Indian higher education institutions through the SII portal.

The process starts with registering on the SII portal, where students will need to provide basic information, such as their name, country of residence, date of birth, mobile number, and email address.

Each student must have a unique SII ID, which will allow them to track their application status, visa processing, and other related procedures. Without an SII ID, students cannot proceed with their studies in India.

Once students receive an admission offer from a partner institution listed on the SII portal, they can apply for their visa.

- These visas are typically issued for a duration of up to five years, depending on the length of the course. They can also be extended while the student is in India.

- Holders of valid e-student visas can enter India through any immigration checkpoint.

What Is the Study in India (SII) Program?

The program partners with over 600 institutions that offer more than 8,000 courses across various disciplines, including engineering, technology, management, agriculture, sciences, arts, humanities, law, paramedical sciences, Buddhist Studies, and Yoga.

The application process is straightforward, with students able to submit their applications online. Once applications are submitted, they will be processed for admission accordingly.
