Telangana Pre-rimary Education: In a significant stride towards strengthening public education, the Telangana government has officially announced the introduction of pre-primary classes in 210 government schools across the state, commencing from the 2025-26 academic year. This pivotal decision, communicated by the School Education department, underscores the state's commitment to fostering early childhood development and ensuring that children, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, receive a robust foundational learning experience before entering Class I.
District Education Officers have been instructed to promptly initiate the enrolment process for the upcoming academic year, setting the stage for this transformative educational initiative.
The integration of pre-primary sections is part of the broader Samagra Shiksha program, a comprehensive scheme formed by merging the centrally sponsored initiatives of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), and Teacher Education (TE).
This holistic approach aims to improve the quality of school education at all levels, from pre-school to senior secondary. The approval for these 210 pre-primary sections came through the Annual Work Plan & Budget (AWP & B) 2025-26 of Samagra Shiksha, signifying a well-planned and funded expansion of early education opportunities.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had earlier expressed his government's contemplation of introducing such pre-primary classes. On April 10, he highlighted the administration's intent to provide quality education to underprivileged children right from the foundational stages, recognizing its critical role in shaping their academic future and retaining them within the public school system. This current announcement solidifies that vision into a concrete plan, addressing a long-standing need for accessible early childhood education in government schools.
This strategic expansion is expected to yield multiple benefits: it will enhance the school readiness of young learners, bridge early learning gaps, and crucially, encourage higher retention rates among underprivileged children in public schools. By investing in pre-primary education, Telangana aims to create a more equitable and effective public education system, laying a strong groundwork for its students' long-term academic success and overall development.
