School Holidays On Tuesday:  Several states and cities across India will see changes in school holidays and schedules for students, due to special events, weather conditions, and adjustments to planned winter breaks. While most areas are returning to their normal academic schedules after the winter holidays, several states and localities have declared school closures due to festivals or events, the need to manage crowds, and traffic safety concerns.

In Pune, Maharashtra, schools along the route of the Pune Grand Tour 2026, an international cycling event, will remain closed due to anticipated traffic disruptions and road closures. Meanwhile, in parts of North India, such as Delhi, amidst GRAP 4 restrictions, and in Uttar Pradesh, some schools are expected to remain closed or operate on a hybrid schedule due to local religious events and ongoing cold weather warnings.

Uttar Pradesh School Holiday Updates On 20 January:

Due to ongoing congestion in some areas of Uttar Pradesh and prevailing weather conditions, schools remain closed at the local level.

Prayagraj District:

Due to the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj, one of India's largest religious gatherings, district authorities have ordered that all government and private schools up to Class 8 will remain closed until January 20, 2026. This decision aims to manage crowds and prevent safety issues for students amidst the large influx of pilgrims.

Weather & Fog Impact:

In northern districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Agra, people are closely monitoring weather advisories, and some schools are starting late or adopting hybrid learning if visibility is poor in the morning. District administrations are advising parents to check local weather warnings before sending their children to school.

Will Schools Be Closed In Delhi-NCR and North India?

While winter vacations have recently ended in many northern regions, the ongoing cold wave and dense fog warnings have impacted school schedules across a large part of the Delhi-NCR area. Schools Closed for Pune Grand Tour 2026 Event. In Pune, Maharashtra, the district administration has declared a one-day holiday for schools located along the route of the Pune Grand Tour 2026, a UCI-recognised international cycling competition.

The five-day Continental Road Cycling Race for Men, being held from January 19 to 23, will cover a 437-km route across the Deccan Plateau and the Sahyadri Range, featuring sharp turns and demanding elevations. The event has drawn 171 cyclists from 29 teams representing 35 countries.
