What was Deepesh's early life like?
Growing up, life wasn't easy for Deepesh and her family. Her father, Govind Kumar, ran a small street food business selling pakoras and snacks for 25 years to support his wife and five children. The family of seven lived in a small room, yet education remained their top priority. Deepesh proved her academic prowess from a young age. She studied at Shishu Adarsh Vidya Mandir in Bharatpur, scoring 98% in 10th grade and 89% in 12th grade. She later pursued a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur, and then an M.Tech from IIT Bombay, laying a strong foundation for her career.
How did she overcome initial setbacks?
After working in the private sector for a year, Deepesh decided to follow her true passion and pursue a career in civil services. She began preparing for the UPSC exam, but her first attempt in 2020 didn't go as planned. Undeterred, she moved to Delhi for coaching, invested her savings, and dedicated all her energy to achieving her dream. Despite the financial strain on her family, she utilized her engineering background to maintain a disciplined study schedule.
What was her final UPSC result?
Her perseverance paid off in 2021 when she secured an All India Rank of 93 and 4th rank in the EWS category, earning her a position as an IAS officer in the Jharkhand cadre. Her success has also inspired her siblings: her younger sister is a doctor at Safdarjung Hospital, one brother is pursuing MBBS from AIIMS Guwahati, and another is continuing his studies in Latur. The small room of the "fritter seller" has now become the home of professionals.
What motivated her during her struggles?
Deepesh credits her success to her father's tireless efforts, saying, "Whenever I felt tired, his struggles gave me strength."
