Cracking the prestigious civil services exam can take several years of hard work and dedication. One shining example of this is IAS Officer Omkar Pawar. He comes from a small village in Maharashtra called Satara and has an inspiring journey from engineering to the UPSC exams.
Omkar's journey began when his mother saw the respect that civil servants received in their village. She wished for him to work in administrative services, and Omkar was determined to make her dream come true.
To achieve this goal, Omkar had to overcome many challenges and obstacles, but he persevered. His story emphasises the importance of persistence in achieving success in the civil services exam.
Omkar Pawar started his education in a small village government school and later pursued engineering in Pune. However, he never really wanted to be an engineer. His family pushed him toward engineering because he performed well in school, and coming from a small village, they saw it as a good opportunity.
The idea of taking the UPSC exam never crossed Omkar's mind until his final year of engineering. It was the inspiring work of the IAS officer and former Municipal Commissioner Shreekar Paradeshi that motivated him to start his journey toward becoming an IAS officer.
After finishing his engineering degree, Omkar had a tempting job offer as a software engineer, promising a comfortable life and good pay. But deep down, he still yearned to become an IAS officer. Despite the allure of corporate life, his true passion was to work in rural areas and serve the public. So, he made a brave decision to turn down the job offer and fully commit to preparing for the IAS exam.
In 2015, he took his first shot at the UPSC exam, but he faced disappointment with four failed attempts. However, he didn't give up. In 2018, he got a position as an assistant commander in the Central Armed Forces, and in 2020, he achieved the rank of IPS officer. Yet, Omkar's ultimate dream was to become an IAS officer.
His persistence finally paid off in 2022 when he secured All India Rank 194 in the UPSC exam. This accomplishment showcased his unwavering dedication and proved that with relentless focus, dreams can indeed come true.
