Uttar Pradesh Christmas Holiday: The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered that schools will remain opened on December 25, 2025 across the state. The decision has come to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, so schools have decided to celebrate the day with various commemorative programmes instead of declaring a holiday.
Student attendance on the day will be mandatory across all educational institutions. Schools have also been directed to organise activities related to the commemoration as part of the observance.

Last year December 25 was a holiday in all the schools across the state but this year, schools will remain open.

The authorities have urged all the educational institutions and schools to inform parents and students regarding the holiday schedules well in advance to plan accordingly. The schools have been directed to organise various programs on December 25 such as speeches, cultural programmes, and several activities to honour Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s life and legacy.
There are several states such as Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, Telangana and more states that will have a Christmas holiday which highlights the regional variations of the festival.
The decision to open schools on December 25 by the Uttar Pradesh government follows calls made by leaders of the Bajrang Dal, to celebrate the day as ‘Bal Gaurav (child pride) and Good Governance Day’ instead of Christmas.
Students and parents are advised to stay in touch with the schools authorities to stay updated with the school closures and openings updated on a regular basis.
