WBSSC Recruitment Scam: Following the Supreme Court's order to disclose the names within a week, the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) on Saturday (August 30, 2025) published the list of 'tainted ineligible' candidates who were recruited during the recruitment process conducted by the commission in the State Level Selection Test (SLST) of 2016.

The list, which was uploaded to the commission's official website at 8 PM, contains the names, roll numbers, and serial numbers of individuals identified.

Background Of the Case:

On April 3, the Supreme Court of India declared all 25,753 appointments made under the 2016 process invalid. The Supreme Court made a distinction between 'tainted' and 'untainted' candidates. The WBSSC clarified that 5,303 persons were marked as "tainted", including the 1,804 teachers now nominated. The remaining 15,803 have been placed in the "untainted" category.

Court's Directive And Commission Response:

In the same series, the names were released by the commission on Saturday after the Supreme Court issued a strict direction on August 28, 2025, ordering the commission to make public the names of the tainted persons within a week.

A WBSSC official said that the candidates included in the list will be permanently barred from appearing in any future recruitment examination conducted by the commission.

According to the commission, these "tainted" candidates allegedly secured their place by tampering with the OMR answer sheets or by taking advantage of political and influential connections.

WBSSC chairman Siddhartha Majumdar had earlier assured that the list was being finalised and "not a single tainted candidate" would be allowed to appear in the upcoming SLST examinations to be held on September 7 and 14.

The publication of this list marks the beginning of the next phase of the new recruitment process, even as the political controversy over one of Bengal's biggest alleged corruption scandals continues to grow.
