Yearender 2024 Education Sector: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced several significant updates and policies in 2024, impacting exams, attendance norms, infrastructure, and more. Here’s a recap of the major announcements and reforms.

CBSE Board Exams 2025 Schedule Announced

The CBSE has released the schedule for the Class 10 and 12 board exams for 2025. The exams are scheduled to begin on February 15, 2025, with Class 10 exams concluding on March 18 and Class 12 exams wrapping up on April 4.

CBSE Practical Exam Dates 2025

Practical exams, internal assessments, and project work for the 2024-25 academic session will commence on January 1, 2025.

Focus On Competency-Based Questions

The Class 12 Board exams 2025 will include an increased number of competency-based questions. These questions are designed to evaluate students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Mandatory 75% Attendance for Class 10 and 12

CBSE has mandated a minimum 75 per cent attendance for students to be eligible for the board exams. Exceptions will be granted in cases such as medical emergencies, participation in sports events, or other significant reasons, provided valid documentation is submitted. Eligible students may receive up to 25 per cent attendance relaxation.

Special Exams for Athletes and Olympiad Participants

CBSE will hold special exams in 2025 for students engaged in national or international sports events, including recognised Olympiads.

- This initiative, which started in 2018, helps students balance academics with extracurricular excellence.

- Students whose board exam dates overlap with events recognised by SAI or BCCI can benefit from this provision, which also covers travel dates.

Mandatory CCTV Installation in Exam Halls

CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to install CCTV cameras in every exam hall.

- Schools without permanent cameras will not be considered suitable as examination venues.

- This policy will take effect starting with the 2025 board exams to enhance exam security.

Sub-Regional Office to Open in Tripura

In response to the underperformance of state-run CBSE-affiliated schools in Tripura, CBSE will establish a sub-regional office in Agartala.

- Recent results showed 61 per cent of Class 10 students and 59 per cent of Class 12 students passed.

- These schools, initially under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), were renamed as Vidyajyoti schools in 2018 and transitioned to CBSE’s English-medium curriculum.

CBSE has inaugurated its first overseas Regional Office (RO) and Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Dubai, marking a significant step in enhancing Indian education in the UAE.
