Out of these seats, as many as 12 seats fall in the naxal-hit Bastar division of the state. A three-layered security cover has been set up in the area for the smooth conduct of the polls.

About 60,000 security personnel have been deployed in the sensitive areas of the state. A close contest is expected between the BJP and Congress as both parties did a fervid campaign with their star campaigners.

A total of 223 candidates from across the parties are in the fray in the first phase. The remaining 70 seats of Chhattisgarh will go to polls in phase 2 on November 17.

The 12 constituencies of Bastar division are-- Antagarh, Bhanupratappur, Kanker, Keshkal, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Bastar, Jagdalpur, Chitrakoot, Dantewada, Bijapur, Konta.

The remaining eight seats going to polls in the first phase include Pandariya, Kawardha, Khairagarh, Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon, Khujji, and Mohla-Manpur.

North-East state Mizoram will vote in a single phase to elect lawmakers across 40 Assembly constituencies in the state. A triangular contest is expected between the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the Opposition Zoram People's Party (ZPM) and the Congress.

A total of 174 candidates are in the fray. While MNF, ZPM and Congress are contesting in all 40 seats, BJP has fielded its candidates in only 23 seats.

The ruling MNF has expressed confidence in retaining power in the state while the Congress eyes a comeback after being ousted by the former in 2018. BJP, however, believes there would be a fractured mandate in the state and they will play a key role in forming the government.

The Election Commission on October 9 blew the poll bugle after it announced the schedule of the Assembly elections in five states--- Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram.

Polls in Madhya Pradesh will take place on November 17, followed by Rajasthan on November 23 and Telangana on November 30 in a single phase.
