N. Chandrababu Naidu, the chief of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is reportedly set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 9, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to grace the occasion. The TDP-led alliance has emerged victorious with a commanding lead in 158 out of 175 assembly constituencies, paving the way for Naidu's return to governance in Andhra Pradesh.
At the age of 74, Naidu is poised to assume the role of Chief Minister for the fourth time, having previously held the position from 1995 to 2004 in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He also served as the inaugural Chief Minister of the bifurcated Andhra Pradesh state in 2014.
Following a setback in the 2019 elections, where the TDP faced defeat at the hands of the YSR Congress Party, Naidu has staged a remarkable comeback, riding on the wave of anti-establishment sentiment. The alliance forged with the Jana Sena Party (JSP) led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, along with the BJP, appears to have been instrumental in this resurgence.

With a commanding lead in 131 assembly segments, the TDP has secured a significant majority on its own. Notably, Naidu himself contested the Kuppam constituency, a seat he has held since 1989.
Moreover, Naidu's son and TDP general secretary, Nara Lokesh emerged victorious in the Mangalagiri constituency. This marks a reversal of fortune for Lokesh, who faced defeat in the same constituency in previous elections.
In addition to its success in the assembly polls, the TDP also secured victory in 16 out of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies. This performance stands in stark contrast to the 2019 elections, where the TDP managed to secure only 23 assembly and three Lok Sabha seats.

Meanwhile, the BJP alone couldn’t surpass the majority mark in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Therefore, all eyes have turned to Naidu-led TDP and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s JDU. These two alliance partners of BJP will help NDA form the government at the centre.
