Chhattisgarh Assembly Election 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack at the Congress party during an election rally in the Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, where the first phase of voting for the state Assembly election was underway on 20 seats. Attacking Chhattisgarh's ruling party, PM Modi said "the courage of terrorists and Naxals increases in the country" whenever Congress is voted to power.

"The Congress government has failed to control Naxal violence. In recent times, many BJP workers have been taken away from us. A few days ago, one of our workers was shot dead," he stated. The Prime Minister was referring to the killing of BJP leader Ratan Dubey, who was murdered by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Saturday while campaigning for the Assembly polls.

PM Modi also targeted the grand old party over the safety of women, saying that human trafficking and illicit drug trade are on the rise in Surguja district. "Under the Congress rule, in Surguja, human trafficking and drug business are on the rise. Our sisters and daughters are being targeted by criminals. Many girls from tribal families have gone missing. Congress leaders have no answer to this," the Prime Minister alleged.

Furthermore, reiterating the claim made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), PM Modi alleged that the Congress party even exploited "the name of Mahadev" to "fill its coffers". "Congress has given nothing but betrayal to all of you. Congress did not even fulfil the dreams of the youth of Chhattisgarh. They even did a scam in the name of 'Mahadev'. 'Mahadev' betting scam is being discussed in the country and abroad today," PM Modi remarked.

He added, "Congress has made your children place bets to fill its coffers." The ED has said that its probe into the operations of Mahadev Book Online suggests that around Rs 508 crore have been paid so far by promoters of the betting app to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
