After attracting criticism over his contentious remark on the Muslim community, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reiterated Congress would snatch the property from people and distribute it to their ‘special’ ones. PM Modi said he spoke the truth ‘exposing’ the politics of the grand old party, adding that they went into a panic and started abusing him. He made this remark while addressing a public meeting in the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat as part of his campaign for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

“The day before yesterday in Rajasthan, I put forth some truth in front of the country and the entire Congress and INDI alliance went into a panic. I put forth the truth that Congress is plotting to snatch your property and distribute it to their special people. When I exposed their politics, they got so angry that they started abusing Modi. I want to know from Congress why they are so afraid of the truth. Why do they hide their policy so much, when you yourself made the policy then why are you afraid to accept it now? If you have the courage then accept it, we are ready to face you,” PM Modi said.

The Controversy:

A political pandemonium erupted after Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi on the latter’s ‘financial and institutional survey’ promise for the re-distribution of the country’s wealth and jobs. The former Congress chief made this remark on April 6 in Hyderabad under his caste census vow. Rahul said upon forming the government, the Congress party will do a caste census so that the backwards, SCs, STs, poor of general castes and minorities get to know how much they account for in the country. He said the work on the financial and institutional surveys, to find who holds the country’s wealth, will follow the exercise. He said people will be granted their rights across the institutions in the country. PM Modi lapped up the issue and rebuked the Congress party, alleging that they will distribute country wealth among ‘infiltrators’ and the ones ‘having more children’.

Manmohan Singh’s Reference Amid Pandemonium:

PM Modi, while taking a dig at the Congress, linked Rahul Gandhi’s wealth re-distribution remark with former PM Manmohan Singh’s 2006 remark on the distribution of the country’s resources. He alleged Manmohan Singh too said ‘Muslims have first right on country's resources’.
