Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of HD Kumaraswamy, is all set to contest the upcoming Karnataka Assembly election, slated to be held on May 10, from the Ramanagara constituency. After filing his nomination, Nikhil on Monday exuded his confidence in winning the election. "When I took the ticket from veteran politician HD Deve Gowda, it was a very emotional moment...We delivered during the tenure of Deve Gowda and HD Kumaraswamy. We're very confident...," said Nikhil Kumaraswamy, news agency ANI reported.
Who Is Nikhil Kumaraswamy
- Nikhil Kumaraswamy is the son of HD Kumaraswamy and grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief Deve Gowda.
- Nikhil is predominantly known as an actor in the Kannada and Telugu film industries. He made his acting debut with the Kannada-Telugu bilingual movie Jaguar.
- Nikhil officially joined JD(S) in 2018. He did an election campaign for JD(S) during Karnataka Assembly Elections.
- He contested Mandya's seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Nikhil had lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election from another party bastion of Mandya to BJP-backed independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh
- Nikhil to contest from the Ramanagara Assembly constituency this time. He filed his nomination from the Ramanagara seat after he received the 'B' form from Deve Gowda.
Ramanagara Constituency
- The JD(S) has been securing seats from Ramanagara since 2004, with Kumaraswamy emerging victorious on four occasions -- 2004, 2008, 20013, 2018. The Ramanagara seat went vacant after HD Kumaraswamy took oath as the legislator from Channapatna.
Ramanagara comes under the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency. Currently, this seat is represented by Nikhil's mother Anita Kumaraswamy, who won the 2018 by-election by a whopping margin of 1,09,137 votes. She gave up her seat to Nikhil who is campaigning heavily across the constituency.
The election of 224 assembly constituencies will be held on May 10 and the counting of votes will be declared on May 13. The polling in 224 assembly seats will be held in a single phase. The term of the current Karnataka Legislative Assembly will end on May 24.
