Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: Rajasthan is set to go to the polls to elect representatives for its 200-seat Legislative Assembly. Polling for the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly election will be held in a single phase on November 25. The counting of votes will commence on December 3 and official results are expected to be declared by December 5, as per the Election Commission.

Nawalgarh Assembly Election 2023

Nawalgarh is one of the 200 Assembly seats in Rajasthan. The constituency falls under Jhunjhunu district and is currently represented by Congress party's Dr Rajkumar Sharma in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.

Congress has chosen Sharma as its candidate for the upcoming state polls and is banking on cashing in on the popularity of the incumbent MLA, who has won from Nawalgarh in the last three Assembly elections, albiet once on BSP ticket and once as an independent candidate before joining the gran old party. Meanwhile, BJP has fielded Vikram Singh Jakhal from the seat.

Nawalgarh Assembly Election 2018

In the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election, Sharma got elected as Nawalgarh's MLA against a fray of candidates led by his closest competitor, BJP leader Ravi Saini. Sharma got 79,570 votes and defeated Saini by a huge margin of 36,500 votes.

The Nawalgarh Assembly constituency in 2018 recorded a poor voter turnout of 71.84% in comparison to the statewide turnout average of 74.72%. The polling day saw 1,84,502 people cast their votes on EVMs in Nawalgarh. Out of all the eligible voters who participated in polling that year, 93,795 were women, while only 90,707 were men.

In 2013, Nawalgarh's electorate had chosen Sharma, who was contesting as an independent candidate, as their MLA over Congress leader Pratibha Singh, who emerged as the runner-up. Sharma got 76,845 as against Singh's 43,279 votes. The difference in their tallies translated to a whopping 21.17% of the total valid votes polled.
