Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar used to be a part of the Patna Lok Sabha constituency, which was bifurcated into two separate constituencies after the 2008 delimitation, Patliputra (named after the old name of Patna) and Patna Sahib. Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 40 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the state. The constituency comprises six Vidhan Sabha constituencies, including Bakhtiarpur, Digha, Bankipur, Kumhrar, Patna Sahib and Fatuha. The Lok Sabha election, which began on April 19, is being held in seven phases and will go on till June 1. The counting of votes for the 18th general elections of India will take place on June 4. The constituency, encompassing both urban and rural areas, is renowned for its historical and cultural significance.

Patna Sahib Lok Sabha Election 2024: Voting Date, Time

The Patna Sahib seat will go to polls in the seventh phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha election, on June 1, 2024. The voting will take place between 7 am and 5 pm.

Patna Sahib Lok Sabha Election 2024: Key Candidates

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded their sitting MP Ravi Shankar Prasad for second time in a row from this seat. For INDIA alliance, Congress has fielded Anshul Avijit, the son of former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar. With the Patna Sahib seat being a stronghold of the BJP, Ravi Shankar Prasad will be looking to keep BJP’s 100 per cent winning record intact and extend their lead to 4-0.

Patna Sahib Lok Sabha Elections: Vote Share

The seat has been held by the BJP, as the then member of BJP Shatrughan Sinha won the elections in 2009 and 2014, while in 2019, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad helped BJP in continuing their dominance. Sinha's defection to the Congress in 2019 failed to sway the electorate, as Ravi Shankar Prasad emerged victorious by a substantial margin of over two lakh votes. Ravi Shankar Prasad won from the seat garnering 6,07,506 votes.

The voter turnout in the 2020 Assembly election was 45.1%, similar to the turnout of 45.5% in the 2019 Parliament election and slightly lower than the 47.7% turnout in the 2015 Assembly election.

Seventh Phase Of 18th Lok Sabha Election

The fate of 904 candidates including some prominent ministers and MPs will be sealed when people from 57 parliamentary constituencies across eight states and Union Territories will vote on June 1. A total of 13 seats each in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, nine seats in West Bengal, eight seats in Bihar, six seats in Odisha, four seats in Himachal Pradesh, three seats in Jharkhand, and one seat in the Union Territory of Chandigarh will go to polls in the last phase.
