BMC Elections 2026: Aamir Khan has yet again put himself in the spotlight, but this time he has reignited the language row. On January 15, after casting his vote for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in Mumbai, the PK actor interacted with the media and was seen flaunting his inked finger. The 60-year-old actor spoke in Marathi and urged Mumbai people to cast their vote.

During Aamir Khan’s media interaction while he spoke in Marathi, a media person asked him to repeat the same message in Hindi. Replying to him, the 3 Idiots actor stated, “Hindi mein? yeh Maharashtra hai, bhai.” However, when the media told him that the message would also be aired in Delhi, the actor added, “Oh, it will go to Delhi as well? Very good arrangements have been made. I would appeal to everyone: come and cast your valuable vote." This clip soon surfaced on social media and many users expressed disappointment while others stated that the actor was only being sarcastic.

One social media user commented, “Aamir Khan was told to ‘Speak Hindi’ while speaking in Marathi, this moment reminds me of our own contradictions about languages in India.” Another user shared, “Some people don't even get his sarcasm.” A third user stated, “He is talking in sarcastic way.” Another shared, “sarcasm nex level.” One comment read, “Spot on sarcasm.”

Meanwhile, it all started in April 2025 when the Maharashtra government passed a decision to make Hindi a compulsory third language in schools. The order had sparked huge backlash from the opposition and language advocacy groups in the state. While the BJP-led government in Maharashtra reversed its order, the debate continued to rage on social media.

Aamir Khan’s next project

On the work front, Aamir Khan’s latest production venture, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos hit theatres today, on January 16, 2025. The movie is jointly helmed by Vir Das, who also plays the lead actor, alongwith Kavi Shashtri. Happy Patel movie also stars Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi and rapper-turned-actor Srushti Tawade in supporting roles. It also features cameos by Aamir Khan and Imran Khan. The film is currently facing stiff box office clash with Pulkit Samrat’s Rahu Ketu, which also premiered in cinemas today.
