Udit Narayan has found himself in the middle of a controversy after a video of him kissing female fans at an event went viral. The clip, which surfaced on February 1, showed him locking lips with multiple fans while performing Tip Tip Barsa Paani. This unexpected moment sparked criticism from netizens, with many questioning his actions. However, Udit later addressed the situation, calling it a spontaneous expression of fan love.

Amid the backlash, fellow singer and longtime friend Abhijeet Bhattacharya has come forward in support of Udit. Taking to Instagram, Abhijeet shared a video featuring the two of them and referred to Udit as “Mera Khiladi Dost” (my player friend). He also captioned the post with #YehKhiladiMainAnari, referencing their popular duet Main Khiladi Tu Anari.

Following the widespread criticism, Udit Narayan defended himself in an interview with Hindustan Times. He explained that the moment was unplanned and a result of fan enthusiasm.

"Fans can be very passionate. We are decent people, not like that. Some people express their love differently. Why make a big deal out of it now? In such crowds, there are bodyguards too, but fans believe they are getting a rare chance to meet us. Some shake hands, others kiss hands—this is all part of their excitement. It shouldn’t be taken too seriously," he said.

Udit Narayan is one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, with a career spanning multiple decades. He has sung in Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, and several other languages, winning four National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards. His son, Aditya Narayan, has followed in his footsteps and is also a well-known playback singer.
