Oscar-nominated actress Karla Sofía Gascón has found herself in the middle of controversy after an old tweet of hers resurfaced, containing racist remarks about BTS. The Emilia Pérez star faced severe backlash from BTS’ global fanbase, ARMY, leading to her issuing a formal apology and eventually deactivating her X (formerly Twitter) account.

The controversy began when fans started revisiting past instances of celebrities making hateful comments about BTS. This was in response to a recent issue involving an Italian radio show host allegedly insulting BTS Jin. While digging through social media, fans found an old tweet by Gascón that contained offensive language against the South Korean boy band.

In her now-deleted post, Gascón expressed frustration over her Twitter feed being flooded with BTS-related posts when she was looking for important news. However, what angered fans the most was her next statement, where she referred to BTS members as "Chinese people from BTS" and used derogatory language. She also accused the group’s label of using tragic news hashtags for publicity.

As soon as the tweet resurfaced, ARMYs criticized the actress, calling her out for her racist and insensitive remarks. Many pointed out that someone with such views did not deserve the recognition she was receiving. One user wrote, "What’s the point of having so many awards if you’re not worth it as a person?" Fans also trended hashtags like #StopAsianHate and #RespectBTS to raise awareness.

Facing intense criticism, Gascón issued a public apology through Variety, though she did not directly mention BTS. She stated that she was sorry for her “past social media posts that have caused hurt” and acknowledged the struggles of marginalized communities. Despite her apology, the backlash did not subside.

Even after her statement, the hate comments continued, affecting not just her but also her family. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gascón ultimately decided to deactivate her X account, citing the mental toll the controversy had taken on her and her loved ones.
