JE Entertainment Desk: After much anticipation, Om Raut's highly awaited film 'Adipurush' has arrived in theatres. With the challenge of condensing the expansive 'Ramayana' narrative into a three-hour-plus film, Raut has successfully accomplished this feat. However, the question remains: Does the film meet the sky-high expectations set by its creators since its initial announcement? To know this, you have to watch the movie!

Adipurush Review: Plot

'Adipurush' is an adaptation of Indian mythology depicting the triumph of good over evil. 'Adipurush' is made up of two words, Adi and Purush. It means the first man. According to Hindu beliefs, 'Adipurush' is the god who created the entire universe.

Adipurush Movie Review: Cast

Prabhas as Raghava
Kriti Sanon as Janaki
Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh
Sunny Singh as Lakshmana
Devdatta Nage as Bajrang
Vatsal Sheth as Meghanada
Sonal Chauhan as Mandodari
Trupti Toradmal

Adipurush Review: What Works?

Prabhas' entrance in the film is an applause-worthy moment that garners loud cheers from the theater audience as he emerges from the water and skillfully eliminates a diverse range of monsters. The undeniable chemistry between Prabhas and Kriti adds an extra layer of charm to the movie. However, Sunny Singh's portrayal of Shesh is sporadic throughout the film.

Saif Ali Khan's portrayal of Ravana was incredibly captivating. He effectively conveyed the expected sense of terror associated with the iconic character. A particularly impactful scene showcases Saif Ali Khan's Ravana forcefully abducting Janaki, displaying both strength and power.

Yet, the standout performer is Devdatta Nage in the role of Bajrang, who pours his heart and soul into the character. His comedic timing and delivery of lines throughout the movie are truly commendable . With a nod to the contemporary Ramayana, the director incorporates impactful dialogues such as, "Jo hamari behno ko hath lagayenge, unki lanka laga denge," further adding depth to the film.

Adipurush Review: What Doesn't Work?

Many aspects of the film seemed ontrived and unnaturalAccording to reports, the movie was crafted with a substantial budget of Rs 700 crore. However, the much-anticipated visual effects (VFX), which had raised concerns since the teaser's release, failed to impress the audience. In particular, the VFX depicting monkeys adorned in leather gear within the forest struck me as rather amusing.

As a kid, when we were shown 'Ramayana', Raavana abducted Sita on a flying rath (a traditional chariot), but here, in 'Adipurush', Raavana made his entry on a dragon. It's acceptable to invent a contemporary 'Ramayana', but the historical details shouldn't be changed.

Dialogue choices such as "Marega Bete" and "Teri Bua Ka Bagicha" are cringe-worthy and could have been avoided. Even in a modernized rendition of the 'Ramayana', it is important for the creators to maintain a level of decency and handle such aspects with care.

Adipurush Review: BGM

The BGM plays a very important role while depicting such a mythological saga and the makers have done it well in 'Adipurush'. All the songs, 'Tu Hai Sheetal Dhaara', 'Jai Shree Ram', 'Ram Siya Ram', and more, will comfort you. So, NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT BGM.

Adipurush: Cast Performance

Though Kriti Sanon's Janaki received a little less screentime, she nailed it, thereby opening a path for herself in upcoming biggies in the South film industry. There is an instance where she threatens Ravana with a powerful dialogue delivery, it will give you goosebumps.

Prabhas' Raghava delivered his part perfectly. He shines throughout the film. We expected him to speak more in the first half, but he fulfilled it in the second. From high-octane action sequences to maintaining calmness in his role, everything will leave you in awe of your favourite actor.

Saif Ali Khan will blow your mind with his spectacular performance as Ravana. I wonder if somebody had played one of the most important roles in the Ramayana with this kind of perfection. Despite several internet rumours that Saif would let you down, the actor excels in his role.

Let's give a round of applause to Devdatta Nage for his remarkable performance. The creators have successfully incorporated a touch of safe humour in Nage's character, which is quite impressive. In fact, the audience in the theatre enthusiastically chanted "Jai Shree Ram" when Nage made his first appearance on screen. Vatsal Sheth's portrayal of Meghnath also deserves recognition for his graceful execution of the role.

Adipurush Review: Final Verdict

Low on VFX, 'Adipurush' makes for a one-time watch. To me, it seemed more like a movie made for kids. The movie might have benefited better if it had a better visual presentation.
