Aespa member Winter recently underwent surgery for pneumothorax, commonly known as a collapsed lung, according to a statement from the group's agency, SM Entertainment. The surgery was described as a preventive measure based on her doctor's recommendation. Winter is currently in recovery following the procedure.

In an official statement, SM Entertainment stated, "Winter recently underwent surgery for pneumothorax and is currently recovering. As [pneumothorax] is a condition prone to recurrence, [the surgery] was carried out as a preventive measure in accordance with her doctor’s opinion, and the decision was made after plenty of discussion."

The agency also addressed Winter's future activities, stating, "Regarding her future schedule, we will consider Winter’s recovery status our top priority moving forward."

Winter is one of the four members of aespa, a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group, which debuted on November 17, 2020, with the single Black Mamba, consists of Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning.

Aespa is currently scheduled to make a comeback in May, followed by a world tour starting at the end of June. The tour will begin in Seoul on June 29-30, followed by performances in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, Jakarta, Sydney, Melbourne, Macau and Bangkok, among other cities.

Winter's surgery comes amid preparations for aespa's upcoming activities, including their highly anticipated world tour. The group's agency has assured fans that Winter's recovery will be the top priority, and any decisions regarding her participation in scheduled events will be made with her health in mind.
