South star Akhil Akkinenni’s latest release Agent is off to a flying start at the box-office. The film, which released theatrically on April 28, 2023, clashed at the box-office against Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus film, Ponniyin Selvan 2.

Despite facing a tough competition at the box office, Agent managed to hold well on its Day 1. According to early trends, the Akhil Akkinenni-starrer has collected Rs 7 crore on Friday.

Directed by Surender Reddy, Agent stars Akhil Akkinenni alongside Mammootty, Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, and Vikramjeet Virk. The film received mixed reviews from critics.

The plot of Agent revolves around a spy with a mysterious past, who is on a mission to uncover the truth about a dangerous terrorist organisation. The film marks the union of Akhil Akkinenni and Mammootty on the big screen.

Speaking about the movie’s journey began, Akhil Akkinenni told Telugu123 in an interview, “It all started during the first lockdown. I like action movies and wanted to do one such film on a large scale. I was not getting that complete satisfaction till Most Eligible Bachelor (I am not demeaning other films). Most Eligible Bachelor gave me more acceptance in the audience, but I badly wanted to do an action flick. When I was retrospecting myself, Surender Reddy met me. But at the same time, I want to do something fresh, and that’s why I chose a spy genre film.”

The actor also highlighted about what stands out in Agent for the viewers. “I don’t think the budget is unique for a film. The weight of each character will be strong in the movie. After release, you will understand why we have made Mammootty sir to be part of our project. Agent is not completely driven by the hero’s character,” Akhil Akkinenni said.

“There will be an intense drama between the three characters, and more importantly, every character will have respect. Agent will give a new experience to the audience involving international spy problems,” the actor added.
