Actor Allu Arjun was released from Hyderabad's Chanchalguda Jail early on the morning of December 14, 2024, following his arrest in connection with a stampede during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre. The incident, which occurred on December 4, resulted in the death of a woman and left her son critically injured. Arjun's release, granted on interim bail by the Telangana High Court, was delayed due to procedural formalities, drawing criticism from his legal team and sparking widespread public and media attention.
The Telangana High Court had granted Allu Arjun interim bail on the evening of December 13, instructing the prison authorities to release him immediately upon receipt of the order. Despite this directive, Arjun spent the night in custody. According to his lawyer, Ashok Reddy, the delay was due to the authorities' failure to comply with the court's "forthwith" release order, which he described as "illegal detention."

At approximately 6:35 a.m. on December 14, Arjun was finally released after his father arrived at the prison to complete the remaining formalities. To avoid the large crowds and media stationed outside the main gates, Arjun exited through an alternate gate and was escorted to his vehicle.
Fans of the actor, who had gathered outside the jail throughout the night, expressed relief upon his release. Their protests highlighted the immense public support for Arjun, even amid the controversy. The police, citing security concerns, ensured that the actor was transported discreetly to prevent further chaos.
Speaking to the media after Arjun’s release, lawyer Ashok Reddy condemned the delay in releasing his client. "The High Court order was very specific. The authorities have to answer why they did not comply. This is an illegal detention, and we will take legal steps," he stated.
When asked about Arjun's condition during his overnight stay in jail, Reddy responded, "I don’t know that. How will I know that?" The lawyer’s comments underscored the growing tension between Arjun’s legal team and the authorities handling the case.
