It's been over a year since Akhil Akkineni’s Agent hit the theatres on the big screen. While the film failed at the box office, fans still await its OTT release, which is yet to be announced. Amid all the delay, there is a buzz that Akkineni will announce his upcoming project anytime soon.
Akhil Akkineni To Announce Next Movie Soon
Recent rumors suggest that Akhil's upcoming 6th movie could potentially be revealed on his birthday, which conveniently falls on April 8, 2024. Speculation is rife that Anil Kumar, known for his work as an assistant director on movies such as Radhe Shyam and Saaho, might take the directorial reins for this project.
About Agent’
‘Agent’ is a Telugu-language action spy film released in 2023, directed by Surender Reddy and written by Vakkantham Vamsi. Starring Akhil Akkineni, Mammootty, Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, and Vikramjeet Virk, the movie also marks the debut of Vaidya and Morea in Telugu cinema. The film was announced back in September 2020 and underwent filming across various locations including Hyderabad, Budapest, Visakhapatnam, and Manali. However, its release faced several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other production setbacks.
‘Agent’ finally hit the screens on April 28, 2023, but encountered a mixed to negative reception from critics. Additionally, it didn't fare well commercially, disappointing both producer Anil Sunkara and Akhil Akkineni. They publicly apologized, acknowledging that the film's production commenced without a properly finalized script.
Why Is The Agent Movie Postponed?
The court has intervened to halt the OTT streaming of the film due to a financial dispute between the producer and distributor. According to reports, Vizag Distributor Battula Satyanarayana has filed a complaint with the court, alleging that producer Anil Sunkara deceived him in their distribution agreement.
