Anupam Kher, who plays the revolutionary leader Jayaprakash Narayan in Kangana Ranaut's upcoming directorial Emergency, has described the film as a "human error story." The movie, set to release in cinemas on January 17, delves into the controversial 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in India.

During the film's promotions, Anupam Kher shared his thoughts on the project with IANS. He emphasized the complexity of portraying Indira Gandhi, saying, "It’s about a prime minister, and I have seen some portions. The portrayal of Indira Gandhi is remarkable. How many actresses can convincingly play her role? It’s not just about getting the physical appearance right, like her nose; it’s about internalizing her fears and insecurities."

Kangana Ranaut, who directs and stars as Indira Gandhi in the film, has reportedly paid meticulous attention to detail in bringing the character to life.

Speaking about his role as Jayaprakash Narayan, Kher highlighted the lesser-known contributions of the leader, affectionately called 'Lok Nayak.' "He did not take up any position after the emergency, and many people today are unaware of his contributions during that time. He was instrumental in opposing the emergency and stood tall as a leader. It’s important that the world remembers his sacrifices and efforts," he said.

Kher also reflected on the reactions he received when he mentioned his role in the film. "Someone recently asked me, ‘Who was Jayaprakash Narayan?’ That shows how much his story needs to be told," he remarked.

The actor praised the film’s cinematography and Kangana’s ability to assemble a talented team. "The cinematography is fantastic, and Kangana has brought together some incredible people for this film," he added. Emergency is expected to provide a gripping narrative of one of India’s most turbulent political eras, shedding light on both the personal and political challenges faced during the emergency.
