Kangana Ranaut, who is gearing up for her much-awaited film Emergency, has recently asked Priyanka Gandhi in parliament to watch the movie. The political drama is set during the period of Emergency imposed in the country in the 70s. It will highlight majorly the decision that was made by the first female Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi during the time of Emergency. Recently, Kangana, who met Lt Indira Gandhi’s grand daughter and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, invited her to watch the political drama. Her response should not be missed in the end.
In an interview with IANS, Kangana said “I actually met Priyanka Gandhi ji in Parliament, and the first thing I told her was, ‘Aapko Emergency dekhni chahiye.’ She was very gracious and responded, ‘Yeah, maybe.’ I said, ‘You will quite like it’”.
When asked if she would invite Gandhi-Nehru family, the actress further said “Let’s see if they want to watch the film. I believe it’s a very sensitive and sensible portrayal of one episode and one personality. I’ve taken great care to portray Mrs. Gandhi with dignity. During my research, I noticed a lot of focus on her personal life—her relationship with her husband, friends, and controversial equations. I thought to myself, there is so much more to a person.”
“I mean, clearly, she was a product of nepotism. But, you see, what happens is, when you meet certain people, like in our film industry, there are things I didn’t like, and I don’t want to be like those people. As an artist, I believe in having a sensible approach, without any biased perception. I may belong to a particular party, a nationalistic one, as the name itself suggests, the people’s party. But I can still have a sensitive approach towards someone from a privileged background. She’s privileged, undoubtedly,” she further added.
After several delays, Emergency is slated to be released in theatres on January 17, 2025. The movie also features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. It has been written and directed by Kangana.
