Anurag Kashyap has voiced his worries about the censorship problems that Ananth Mahadevan's biographical drama Phule is facing. After certain members of the Maharashtra Brahmin group objected to the movie's portrayal of them, the release was reportedly delayed.

Anurag Kashyap questions the circumstances surrounding the preview and finds it unusual that the community appeared to have access to the movie prior to its official release. Taking to Instagram stories, the well-known filmmaker wrote, "My question is, when the film goes for censoring, there are four members in the board. How the f*** the groups and the wings get access to films until and unless they are given access to it? The whole f******g system is rigged."

Phule, starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa, has been postponed because of ongoing controversy. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly requested that the film's producers make a number of alterations before it can be released.

Anurag Kashyap expressed how frustrated he was with the entire situation. He went onto ask why they had to fight against casteism if it didn't exist in this nation. "Meri zindagi ka pehla natak Jyotiba aur Savitribai Phule pe tha. Bhai agar casteism nahin hota is desh mein toh unko kya zaroorat thi ladne ki. Ab ye Brahmin log ko sharam aa rahi hai ya wo sharam mein mare ja rahe hain ya phir ek alag Brahmin Bharat mein jee rahe hain jo hum dekh nahin paa rahe hain, ch****a kaun hai koi to samjhave, " said Kashyap.

Anurag Kashyap thinks that Phule is one of the movies that is being suppressed because of its brave and unapologetic subjects. Using Tees, Dhadak 2, and Punjab 95 as additional examples, he implies that these movies are being criticized because they depict uncomfortable realities.

Meanwhile, Ananth Mahadevan, the director of Phule, recently explained that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) merely requested a few minor tweaks to the movie rather than any cuts. In an interview with PTI, he said that the Brahmin community's concerns were the reason behind the film's release delay rather than the censor board.

Phule New Release Date

Phule movie is based on the lives of social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule, who fought for equality and advocated for universal access to education. Patralekhaa portrays Savitribai Phule, whereas Pratik Gandhi portrays Jyotiba Phule, also called Mahatma Phule.

Phul will now be released in theaters on April 25, 2025, two weeks later than its original April 11 release date.
